Announcement of Opportunity: SciSupport

Deadline: Tuesday, April 18th, 2023

The UK Space Agency is making funding available to support the preparation of space-related experiments. This scheme is open to academics from the UK or overseas, working at UK Research Organisations, and who have already been selected by ESA for access to microgravity or space environments facilities. The purpose of this AO is to support UK-based researchers who have already secured facility access to microgravity and space environments research platforms through the ESA SciSpacE Programmes Research Announcements. The total fund available is £1M, with awards offered at a value of up to £200k.

NATEP Helping SMEs Innovate in Aerospace

Deadline: Wednesday, May 10th, 2023

UK-registered SMEs can apply for a share of up to £2.5M for industrial-led civil aerospace collaborative research and development projects. This is part of the National Aerospace Technology Exploitation Programme (NATEP) competition.

Quantum-enabled positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) systems

Deadline: Wednesday, April 12th, 2023

The aim of the competition is to deliver quantum-enabled systems for positioning, navigation and timing, and quantum-enabled sensors for navigation applications, such as magnetic or gravity field sensors. Successful applicants will be awarded a share of £25M.

To lead a project, you must be:

  • a UK-registered organisation, of any size, or have a UK-registered office
  • work alone or with others from business, research organisations, research and technology organisations, or the third sector, that are UK registered or have a UK registered office, as subcontractors
  • contracts will be awarded to a single legal entity only

QuantERA Call 2023

Deadline: Thursday, May 11th, 2023

QuantERA II ERA-NET Cofund in Quantum Technologies (QT) is a consortium of national and regional Research Funding Organisations (RFOs) in Europe supporting research in QT. The funding organisations of QuantERA II jointly support European multilateral research projects with the potential to initiate or foster new lines of QT through collaborations exploring advanced multidisciplinary science and/or cutting-edge engineering. Innovate UK will contribute a total of £2M to support UK businesses to participate.

UK – Germany Bilateral: Collaborative R&D

Deadline: Sunday, May 7th, 2023

Innovate UK, part of UKRI, will work with The Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz (BMWK), (The Federal Ministry For Economic Affairs And Climate Action), to invest up to £4M in innovation projects.

The aim of this competition is to support UK and German business-led collaboration in innovation with grant funding. Innovate UK will support UK businesses to collaborate successfully with German counterparts and build future global growth prospects.

Your proposal must contribute to the development of commercial products, processes or technical services.

Space for Level Crossing Safety

Opening Date: Monday, April 17th, 2023

Deadline: Monday, June 12th, 2023

In August 2021, the European Union revealed its plans for a Single European Railway Area (SERA) that would connect Europe and help the agency to meet its goals related to carbon emissions. This call for Feasibility Studies aims to assess the technical feasibility and business viability of innovative services / products to improve level crossing safety, using one or more space-based assets. Feasibility studies will be performed in close cooperation with stakeholders and users supporting the study.

ESA will co-fund 80% of the acceptable cost, up to a maximum of €200K, per awarded study.

Space Systems for Safety and Security (4S) Applications

Deadline: Sunday 31st December 2025

Tenderers are invited to propose Feasibility Studies and Demonstration Projects dedicated to assess, develop and demonstrate space-based solutions and business models for innovative, economically sustainable downstream services addressing global security and safety needs.

ESA will bear up to 50% of the eligible total project costs. The remainder has to be financed by the Tenderer through the private sector directly and/or indirectly via co-funding and/or by the users based on terms and conditions to be agreed upon.

SME activities can be funded up to 80% by the Agency, depending on the funding level authorised by the related National Delegation(s).
