Each month, Space South Central aims to bring together a curated list of the latest and best funding opportunities for businesses working in the space sector across the South East.

The list is not exhaustive – for that, see the Satellite Applications Catapult’s Space Enterprise Network.

Cross-Cluster Proof of Concept Call

Deadline: Wednesday, 16th October 2024

STFC are offering businesses the opportunity to apply for up to £45k of grant funding for collaborative projects.

This call invites proof of concept projects from any area related to the STFC-supported Clusters in Space, Energy, Health and Life Sciences, Quantum, Digital, and Defence and Security.

Your project must be business-led, collaborative, and involve one or more project partners from Harwell or Sci-Tech Daresbury Campuses. The STFC are keen to support multi-disciplinary projects, although it is not a requirement of funding.

Research to drive the next generation of manufacturing technologies

Deadline: Wednesday, 23 October 2024

Apply for funding to deliver the next generation of innovative and disruptive manufacturing technologies, processes, and systems to enable us to manufacture the products that we will need for a prosperous and sustainable future in the UK.

The proposed idea is expected to have a strong link to the existing UK manufacturing sector, support the growth of a productive and resilient UK green economy and demonstrate a clear potential for commercialisation.

The full economic cost (FEC) of your project can be up to £1,700,000. Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) will fund 80% of the full economic cost. Projects can be up to 36 months in duration.

UK registered organisations can apply for a share of up to £25 million for game-changing and commercially viable research and development innovations that can significantly impact the UK economy.

Astronomy large awards outline 2025

Deadline: Thursday, 24th October 2024

Astronomy large awards support themed, programmatic large projects tackling big research questions or technology development with the potential to produce world-leading research.

Science and Technology Research Council (STFC) will fund 80% of the full economic cost (FEC) for most fund headings.

Innovate UK innovation loans future economy: Round 17

Deadline: Wednesday, 30th October 2024

Innovate UK is offering up to £25 million in loans to micro, small, and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). Innovate UK innovation loans are for highly innovative late stage research and development (R&D) projects with the best potential for the future. There must be a clear route to commercialisation and economic impact.

Your project must lead to innovative new products, processes, or services that are significantly ahead of others currently available, or propose an innovative use of existing products, processes, or services. It can also involve a new or innovative business model.

Space for Electromobility 

Deadline: Friday, 29th November 2024

The ‘Space for Electromobility’ invitation to tender (ITT) offers funding for teams who would like to develop sustainable space-based services and applications that address challenges related to the electromobility ecosystem.

ESA are offering up to 200,000 Euro (firm-fixed ESA price), 80% of the maximum total cost of 250,000 Euro.

Eureka Globalstars Japan round three

Deadline: Wednesday 4th December 2024

UK registered organisations can apply for a share of up to £2 million to develop Innovative proposals in partnership with Japan and other participating Eureka countries.

To be eligible for grant funding from Innovate UK your collaboration:

  • must be led by a UK registered business of any size

  • must partner with a Japanese registered SME which must be a separate non-linked entity to the UK project partners

  • can include other UK registered organisations

Horizon Europe

Deadline: Open Until Further Notice

Horizon Europe is an EU research and innovation programme. It has a budget of €95.5 billion and runs until 2027.

This is an exciting opportunity for researchers and innovators to unite across Europe; for the UK to renew and expand its research and innovation connections in the EU and beyond, and to benefit from funding, cross-border networks, supply chains for new products, and access to global talent.
