Each month, Space South Central aims to bring together a curated list of the latest and best funding opportunities for businesses working in the space sector across the South East.

CEOI Call for Mission & Technology Preparation Activities

Deadline: Monday 15th May 2023

On behalf of the UK Space Agency, the Centre for Earth Observation Instrumentation (CEOI) invites proposals for activities in support of the ESA Earth Explorer 12 (EE12) Call for Mission Proposals, which is open now, and for which proposals to ESA are required by 29th September of this year.

This Call is aimed at helping UK organisations improve their response to the ESA EE12 Call.

Eligible support activities include funding to:

  • Improve the mission and satellite design.
  • Improve the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of key enabling technologies.
  • Improve the Science Readiness Level (SRL).
  • Provision of a critical friend review of the near complete draft proposal.
  • The Call is looking for proposals that will consolidate the scientific and technology teaming, strengthen the arguments that the mission meets the ESA objectives and mature the under-pinning technology.

Enabling Technologies Programme

Deadline: Tuesday 6th of June 2023

The theme for ETP 3 is Sustainability in Space Technology.

Example of acceptable activities are;

innovative and/or emerging technology research and development – proof of concept, feasibility studies targeting emerging disruptive technologies Space Situational Awareness (SSA) and Space Traffic Management (STM) Space debris mitigation technologies Earth Observation for sustainable practices (agriculture, climate monitoring, disaster risk reduction)

International Bilateral Fund

Deadline: Friday 9th of June 2023

The UK Space Agency is launching a £20 million fund to support international partnerships that will harness the UK’s national strengths, support new space capabilities and catalyse investment. Up to £2 million will initially be available from the International Bilateral Fund (IBF) to help strengthen the space sector’s partnerships with other space nations, with further funding to be made available over the next two years.

The Women In Aerospace Europe Awards & Grants Programme 2023

Deadline: Friday 30th June 2023

WIA-Europe is devoted to providing support to its members through a variety of initiatives that strive to encourage upcoming talent and to support professionals dedicated to growing a gender balanced aerospace community and who look to advance the aerospace industry as a whole.

The WIA-Europe Awards & Grants program is designed to support upcoming talent, both young professionals and students alike. In the award programme, a prize of €1000 is awarded to a WIA-E member. An awards committee of space professionals evaluates and decides on the winners based on the quality of the essay.

This year's categories: Young Professionals Conference Grant and the WIA-Europe Essay Award.

Resilient UK Coastal Communities

Deadline: Thursday 13th July 2023

Transdisciplinary research project will apply a place-based approach to transform the understanding of UK coastal communities and seas.Utilising relevant approaches to build understanding and collaborate with stakeholders to enable transformative decision making.The programme will enhance community knowledge mobilisation and improve resilience in the management of UK coastal areas and seas.You must be based at an eligible UK research organisation to apply.

InnovateUK aims to support up to four research grants, beginning in April 2024. The full economic cost (FEC) of each project can be up to £2.9 million (100% FEC).

Connected Agriculture

Deadline: Thursday 31st August 2023

This opportunity provides funding to European teams who would like to develop a service related to Connected Agriculture. Funding will be provided by the European Space Agency (ESA) for 6-month projects called ‘Kick-Starts’, which can lead to larger scale Demonstration Projects and Feasibility Studies. Kick-Starts are 75% funded by ESA for a maximum of €60K per contract. Proposed services must use satellite data or space-based technologies.
