Revamped site offers improved career advice and recruitment features

One of the UK’s top sites for space sector career information and recruitment, SpaceCareers.uk, has relaunched after a year of redevelopment, offering improved resources for both candidates and employers.

Input and support from organisations from across the sector contributed towards the revamp, and the site now includes enhanced resources for those considering a career in space, as well as a customised experience for job hunters and employers looking to find or advertise opportunities.

SpaceCareers.uk also aims to address the lack of awareness and false perceptions of careers in the space sector – including the huge availability of jobs outside STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields –  and offer increased support for career changers.

Created in 2015 by UK Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (UKSEDS) volunteers, SpaceCareers.uk is now a separate non-profit organisation still working closely with UKSEDS.

One of SpaceCareers.uk's new Directors, Jacob Smith, said: “Over the last seven years, we’ve worked with over 400 organisations and reached over 600,000 people, continuing to grow alongside the booming space sector, which itself has more than doubled in size in this time, now comprising almost 1600 organisations and over 48,000 employees.”

Kathie Bowden, Skills Manager at the Satellite Applications Catapult, one of the organisations consulted during the website’s redevelopment, said: “SpaceCareers.uk is a one-of-a-kind resource that has helped many people find their career in the space sector.

“I'm delighted to see the new website and expanded service, which will play a large part in supporting the skills and recruitment challenges of the sector.”

Dr Louise Butt, Director of the Space South Central Enterprise Network, said: “SpaceCareers.uk’s relaunched website represents another valuable tool for tackling the skills and recruitment challenges facing the UK space industry.

“It will help school pupils and people currently working in other sectors plan their route into space careers, while providing a specialist platform for candidates and employers. We are already seeing regional companies like In-Space Missions, SSTL and KISPE using the service.

“We encourage our members to consider using SpaceCareers.uk for their recruitment needs, and will share opportunities from our region with Space South Central social media followers and email subscribers.”
